Alamance Creek Week

Creek Week is all about bringing residents together to better understand and appreciate their local watersheds! All events will help you learn more about our watershed and how our decisions and actions impact our local waters. Check out the Alamance Creek Week website for more information and activities! For most events, all ages are welcome - but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Free guided, 2-mile hike on the Haw River Trail.

Saturday, March 24 at 2:30-4:00 pm
Free, family-friendly hike with special guest Eric O'Neill a Reptile & Amphibian Biologist. Hike 0.75 mile Basin Creek Trail and spend some time learning about and looking for frogs and salamanders in the creek. Wear comfortable walking or waterproof shoes/boots.

Participants will be taken through a lesson promoting safety and archery basics. Program features an introduction to archery, safety on the range, using a string bow, and 11 steps of archery success through the NASP curriculum. 

Archery programs are FREE, but pre-registration is required! Space is limited; all participants must complete a registration form with liability waiver the day of the program. Archery equipment will be provided.  For more information, please call (336) 229-3150.

Nature Play

Nature Play programs are geared to get families outdoors in nature, learning, playing and having fun! Some of them include more education and some are purely fun! All ages are welcome, but minors must be accompanied by a participating adult. These programs are FREE, but space is limited for all programs and registration is required!

Wanna play outside? Wanna build a fort? Bring your creativity and build a fort out of bamboo, sheets and rope. This simple and fun activity will get you and your family active outside having fun!

Guilford Mackintosh Park and Marina - 1345 NC HWY 61, Whitsett
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. After an introduction to geocaching and the GPS device, we'll head outside and geocache around City Park. Plan on walking 2+ miles. Families and individuals welcome, but recommended for ages 8+. 


Get hiking on local hikes around Burlington, Alamance County and beyond! Expect natural surface trails, rolling terrain with a few steep hills and a moderate pace. Wear comfortable walking shoes (closed-toed) or boots. Bring a water bottle, bug spray & sunscreen. Hikes generally last between 1.5-2 hours. All ages welcome, but minors must be accompanied by an adult. Well mannered dogs also welcome!
